SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Dense fog hung over the Chattahoochee River Saturday morning as about 35 paddlers prepared for the inaugural Sandy Springs SUP Showdown at Morgan Falls Overlook Park.

The six-mile stand-up paddleboard (SUP) race was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., but organizers held competitors near the starting line while waiting for visibility to improve. The race began at about 8:15 a.m., sending paddlers three miles upstream to Azalea Park before turning around for the trip back to Morgan Falls.
