DECATUR, Ga. — When Ehsoe Moo first walked into Global Village Project as a student, she could not speak English. She remembers watching teachers speak to her and wanting to respond, but being unable to find the words.

“It was scary since I didn’t know any English at the time,” Moo said. “In my heart, I want to say something to them, but I cannot.”

What she could understand was how she was being treated.

​

“I feel the love, the care of those teachers, and how they were very kind and nice to you,” she said. “I feel a sense of belonging.”

​

Years later, Moo is back at the school, this time as a teaching assistant helping girls who remind her of herself.

​

“I feel like I’m the bridge between the student and the teacher,” she said.
